It has been a relatively quiet holiday period for the insurance markets, with most of the action relating to the US.
The ISO/PCI report on US p&c insurer nine month results was positive, whilst Fitch reviewed the cat bond scenario and also the improvement in the US Excess & Surplus sector. Willis Re highlighted the soft buyers' market for the January reinsurance renewals which was caused by a combination of factors.
Catlin received an improved assessment by Standard & Poor's for its Lloyd's syndicate business, and ING finalised the divestment of its South Korean life book. SCOR announced an innovative 3-year contingent capital facility. Both Gallagher and Hub bought in the US.
Milliman acquired a consultancy in California. Our editor wrote an opinion piece about the challenge and opportunity to differentiate through Big Data.
